                        Confession: Examine your conscience…

Here is a useful question to help you to examine your conscience…

Have I deliberately not told all the sins I committed during one of my Confessions?

A Prayer:  If I were to say I have not sinned, I would be deceiving no one but myself.

Help me with your grace to examine myself in Your Presence.

We would like to wish a Happy Birthday & Anniversary to…

Father of goodness and love; hear our prayers for the sick members of our community and for all who are in need. Amid mental and physical suffering may they find consolation in your healing presence. Show your mercy as you close wounds, cure illness, make broken bodies whole and free downcast spirits. May these special people find lasting health and deliverance, and so join us in thanking you for all your gifts. We ask this through the

Lord Jesus who healed those who believed.

Amen.

Ash Monday or Ash Wednesday

Ash Monday or Ash Wednesday marks the onset of Lent, the 40-Day period of fasting and abstinence. It is also known as the “Day of Ashes” because on that day at church the faithful have their foreheads marked with ashes in the shape of a cross.

In the Old Testament ashes were found to be used for two purposes: one, as a sign of humility and mortality; and two, as a sign of sorrow and repentance for sin. The church has taken this meaning for expressing humbleness and repentance.

Originally the use of ashes to betoken penance was a matter of private devotion. Later it became part of the official rite for reconciling public penitents. The other Christians in the community of the church used to also put ashes on their heads to feel sympathy for sins and share in returning to be innocent and that their sins have left them.

Putting a “cross” mark on the forehead was an imitation of the spiritual mark or seal that is put on in a Christian baptism. This seal symbolizes a shield from God to save us from the power of Satan. It is also a sign that we belong to God as St. Paul wrote, “Present yourselves to God as raise from the dead to life and the parts of your bodies to God as weapons for righteousness. For sins is not to have any power over you, since you are not under the law but under grace” (Romans 6:13-14)

I wish you a very blessed Holy Lent, to be close to God and open your

heart and mind to hear his voice.
